Coordinator's Comments - Animation

When Phil Young showed me his sketches and talked about his experience at Disney Studios it was quite inspiring. Not everything works best using computer graphics, and studios are even going back to making animated feature films all done by hand.
It was also surprising to hear that small sculpture figures play an important part in seeing just how something will really look when moving. For example, observing how a character looks from the top down. A real model can make a big difference with visualization and how to draw a character’s moves and personality.
I’m sure you’ll also get a story here and there in class about some of the goings on when a movie is created, such as the emphasis on developing a great story and sharing ideas with other artists. This class is for all ages and anyone who’s ever doodled in a sketchbook.
