Sculpting with Papier-mache

Winter 2018

Thursdays  |  1/11-2/22  |  6-8:50 p.m.  |  HEC-216 Medford  |  Cost: $69

Instructor: Terri Regotti

papermachePapier –Mache ( French, “for chewed Paper”) is an extremely versatile medium in which you can create practically anything. In fact, the French,
as early as the 1600’s, were making furniture out of it. Because it is a glue and paper technique, collage and/or mixed media can also be explored on a 2-D surface in this class. I will teach students about the history of the medium and show you the steps for creating a 2-D and/or 3-D project of your choosing.
Materials: with the exception of the acrylic paints and other materials which a student chooses to decorate or embellish their work with, paper mache is a fairly inexpensive medium. One will need lots of newsprint paper, masking tape, possibly wire, cardboard, sharp exacto knife or box cutter. Materials that one will be decorating or embellishing with…acrylic paints, brushes, water bowl, palette, tissue paper, foil, yarn, cloth, buttons or other materials a student may desire.
