Cooperative Work Experience

Cooperative Work Experience

Cooperative Work Experience (CWE) is an exciting program offered by Rogue Community College. Through CWE, a student may earn college credit in return for paid or unpaid work hours at a local business. This program allows students the opportunity to apply what they have learned in the classroom. This learning is applied in a real business environment. Students work 33 hours in order to earn one college credit. Students may elect to enroll in 1 to 6 units of credits. Most students enroll in 3 credits for 99 hours of work.

An RCC instructor (advisor), the student, and a local business person will get together in a single meeting. Working together, they establish the work and learning objectives for the term. An agreement that outlines the work objectives is signed by all. The work begins and ends within any of the specific 11 week school terms or within an 8 week summer term.

The CWE program has two checkpoints. The student will complete a midterm self-evaluation. The assigned supervisor will also complete an evaluation of the student’s performance.  Both of these forms are signed by the supervisor.  The same evaluations are completed again at the end of the term.  RCC works to keep the employer’s paperwork to a minimum. The student is required to manage the completion and submission of these forms.

  • CWE is a great way for students to gain relevant experience in their chosen discipline and it's a great way for the student and businesses to connect.
