Biography

Having been born and raised in Bend, Oregon I have a great appreciation for the outdoors and nature. I live to get outside and be on a trail or river whenever the opportunity presents itself. My mother was a physical therapist, and my father was a high school math teacher. I grew up fortunate to have both my parents around many afternoons and for summer adventures with my two brothers and sister, all of whom are older than me. One of my brothers is severally mentally and somewhat physically handicapped. His name is Joey and he is the glue and light of our family!

I graduated high school and went into the engineering program at Oregon State University enrolling in mechanical engineering. In the middle of college, I switched my major to civil engineering to get a more hands-on experience and better relate to the material. I graduated in 2008 from OSU and moved to Denver, Colorado where my brother and his wife were living at the time. Graduating at this time was tough, as the job market had just collapsed. Companies stopped designing and building resulting in the civil engineering field putting a hold on growth. I worked in a sporting goods store in Denver for a year and lived for the moments outdoors including skiing the mountains of Colorado to my hears content.

From Denver, I moved to New York, New York and worked several jobs in order to make ends meet. At the end of two years in New York, I was a Banquet Captain of a newly growing catering and meeting space company. I served top executive and thousands of businessmen and women while running a crew averaging from 40 to 50 servers. I gained a vast amount of skills in management through this experience as well as working hard to make it on my own in one of the largest cities in the world.

From New York, I moved back to Portland, Oregon where I got involved with tutoring at some of the local high schools. This was when I realized that I wanted to go back to school to become a teacher. I worked part-time jobs at restaurants and as a personal assistant while working classes for my masters in education through the University of Phoenix.

While working on my masters, I took 6-months so I could take a trip of a lifetime to teach English to students in Argentina. I taught business classes, physics classes, and English to bilingual Argentine students. We spent the last month traveling the expansive country in most directions. We fished, camped, and hiked our way around with only the bags on our backs.

I finished my masters upon returning from Argentina. I quickly landed a job at Phoenix high school here in Southern Oregon and am in my second year. I have started an Outdoors club at the high school and am also the boy’s head golf coach.

Please if you are interested in knowing more about me or would like me to know you take some time and introduce yourself!

Biography

I have had the pleasure of working at Rogue Community College as a part-time math instructor for over a decade. I began at the Medford Campus, moved to the Grants Pass Campus and now work at both the Table Rock and Grants Pass Campus.

I especially enjoy working with people in math classes. Watching students grow in their understanding of the topics as the term proceeds is very satisfying. My other job is working as a seasonal tax preparer. Again, people + numbers = fun for Fran.

What else is fun? Being with our granddaughter, hanging out with our dogs and cats, knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, camping, reunions with family and friends, floating down the Rogue, biking.

My husband and I love working and living in this beautiful Valley. We both plan on working and living here for many years to come.

Biography

I was born in Poughkeepsie New York, however I am very glad that my parents moved to California when I was five. I grew up in Palo Alto California. From an early age I have loved to swim and hike. I went camping every summer. That is how I found and fell in love with Southern Oregon. I knew from an early age that I wanted to move here. I love the outdoors and spend my free time outside as much as possible. I found math to be a favorite subject from an early age. I enjoyed helping others to break through barriers of frustration in math and gain understanding. It seemed natural to turn to teaching math when I started looking for a career after raising my children. I continually strive to share my love of mathematics and teaching with all I meet.

Biography

I have always loved being outdoors and studying the world. In college I changed my major several times until I finally figured out that being able to think through problems using mathematics was the key to just about everything I was interested in. Those interests include natural and physical science, horticulture, photography, construction, and philosophy among others. It was hard to choose!

While in college a professor hired me to tutor and teach in an math lab where students all took their mathematics courses independent study. Before that time I never would have thought about teaching as a career, but I found that I was not only good at getting the math across, I loved every part of working with students who were enjoying, or struggling with math at any level.

I still love being part of students learning the mathematics they need to go on to the lives they want. I especially appreciate helping students come to understand and begin to enjoy mathematics. And I still love learning new mathematics and new technologies.
