Biography

Bryan Jeffs is a percussionist, educator, composer and general musical tinkerer. In 2007, Bryan graduated from Southern Oregon University, where while studying under Dr. Terry Longshore, he earned Bachelor’s degrees in music performance and music education. Following that, he earned his Master’s degree in percussion performance while studying under Dr. Daniel Kennedy at California State University, Sacramento.

Bryan has composed numerous works for percussion utilizing both traditional and graphic notation. Several of which can be heard on recordings by the SOU Percussion Ensemble.
Bryan has performed at numerous festivals as an ensemble member, featured soloist and composer. Some notable festivals include the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), Northwest Percussion Festival, the Festival of New American Music in Sacramento, and numerous Day of Percussion events around the Pacific Northwest.

Currently Bryan serves as the Music Department Coordinator at Rogue Community College where he teaches a variety of music courses and directs the RCC Hand Drum Ensemble. He also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Southern Oregon University where he teaches percussion, world music, and assists in the direction of the percussion ensemble. Bryan is a member of the Black Swamp Percussion educator network and an educational artist for Remo drumheads and Vic Firth sticks and mallets.

Biography


I have been fortunate to have a long career as an educator. I share both music and writing with students at RCC and previously taught music to children in the Grants Pass School Dist. for 27 years, as well as working with talented and gifted children for many years.
I have a great passion for musicals and have directed many over the last 30 years. My background in art, music, literature and dance has enabled me to teach children and adults the magic of the stage.

Biography

“Music is one of the great joys of life!” After over 25 years as a music educator, this expression aptly summarizes Deborah Pratt's feelings about music, both as a teacher and an avid recreational music maker.

Deborah's goal as a teacher is to impart a love for music in her students and to help them gain the skills and understanding they need to become successful musicians and to experience the joy of singing and playing music both alone and with fellow music makers.

She holds a Master of Arts in Music Education from The University of Iowa, where she studied vocal pedagogy and choral conducting with Dr. Kenneth Phillips. Her Bachelor of Music in Music Education was earned from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

An accomplished vocal performer of both classical and popular styles of music, Deborah also plays several instruments including piano, cello, and guitar. She currently conducts the RCC Redwood Community Chorus and the Grants Pass Children’s Choir. She also teaches piano and voice classes as well as Kindermusik classes for families with children ages birth to 7 at Great Northwest Music in Grants Pass

Deborah’s prior teaching experience includes directing youth and adult choirs and orchestras in school, church, and community settings as well as teaching classes and private lessons in voice, piano, guitar, strings, and music theory. She is author of the book From Heartbeat to Steady Beat which reviews research on the musical development of young children, published online in 2000 by the National Association of Music Education.

Biography

Lauren Nagaryu Rubin Ph.D. has designed and taught a variety of music classes at RCC, both in the classroom and online. They include World Music, History of Rock, Music Fundamentals, Music Appreciation, History of Jazz, Music Theory and Aural Training, and Film Music. She has her Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Monash University, a Masters degree in Music Technology from Indiana University/Purdue University, and a BA in Music from the University of Hawaii. She plays the Japanese shakuhachi flute, the Australian Aboriginal didjeridu, the tabla drums of North India, and various other hand drums. She does presentations and performances of the shakuhachi. She is also proud to be a part of the great Instructional Media team, teaching faculty about using Blackboard in their courses. Lauren loves distance learning because it allows students who have responsibilities in addition to college have a chance to learn in a flexible and effective way.
