The study of communication examines how people interact to create and share meaning in a variety of contexts, including relationships, groups, organizations, public speaking, and mass media. Communications students learn how to communicate effectively and appropriately with others in order to satisfy their ethical responsibilities and achieve personal and professional goals.

A degree in communications is tremendously versatile, since every career involves at least some elements of communication. Common careers for communications majors include academics, human resources and management, media production, marketing, and public relations. Communications can also serve as an excellent minor or area of emphasis outside of a student’s major to supplement and enhance a variety of degrees.

Communications courses at RCC include:

  • COMM100: Basic Communication
  • COMM111: Fundamentals of Public Speaking
  • COMM115: Introduction to Intercultural Communication
  • COMM201: Media and Society
  • COMM218: Interpersonal Communication
  • COMM225: Small Group Communication and Problem-Solving
