What is a Medical Office Assistant?
Medical Office Assistants are integral members of the medical office communication team, helping to maintain efficiency in the office. They play a key role in patient services by answering phones, greeting patients and triaging appointments. They often update and file patients medical records, fill out insurance forms, arrange hospital admissions and lab services, and handle a variety of other administrative tasks.
Why become a Medical Office Assistant?
Medical Office Assistants are highly sought-after in today’s growing medical field. They help to maintain efficiency in a medical office, help with scheduling laboratory visits and communicate with insurance companies. The projected growth in this industry is 23% by 2024.
How to Apply
To become a RCC student, you must fill out an online admission application from our Get Started page.
- Complete the Placement Process.
- If you have transcripts from another college, have your official transcripts sent to RCC, 3345 Redwood Highway, Grants Pass, OR 97527. Once you have confirmed that your transcripts have arrived at RCC, submit a Transfer Credit Evaluation Request. Once the evaluation is complete you will be notified as to how transfer coursework may be applied to the Medical Office Assistant certificate requirements.

This is a competitive program and not all qualified applicants may be accepted. There will be a waitlist established for those not accepted into the cohort immediately in case new clinical space is open or students decline their seats in the cohort. Any application received after the application deadline will be waitlisted.
Get your immunization records and submit your transcripts as soon as possible to secure your spot in the program. Oregon Health Authority [OHA] mandates current immunizations, American Heart Association, Health Care Provider CPR and First Aid card; a urine drug screen and a criminal history as a condition of clinical attendance for all health careers students who have direct patient contact during their program practicum (for more information please see OHA's Student Information Sheet).
Students who have not completed the above requirements will be withdrawn from the program. It is your responsibility to watch your email and the Medical Assistant website prior to and after acceptance into the program to check for updated requirements. All communication will be via the email you used to apply to RCC.
How much will it cost?
The program is Financial Aid eligible.
