General Industry Outreach

What is “General Industry”? It includes: manufacturing, transportation, communications; electrical, gas and sanitary services; wholesale trade, retail trade, finance, insurance services, real estate and public administration; any industry that is not agriculture, construction or maritime.

Federal OSHA 10 Hour Training - General Industry Outreach

Winter term 2020:

Instructor: Cynthia Holm

This 10-hour training is primarily intended for entry level workers in general industry, which means any industry that is not agriculture, construction or maritime. You will receive an “OSHA 10” card you can present to your employer as proof of basic safety training.This outreach training provides an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter on a job site and emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention. The purpose is to promote workplace safety and health and to make workers in any industry more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights/responsibilities in the workplace. The class includes hands-on activities and demonstrations.  As a bonus, you will receive a Federal OSHA/Oregon OSHA regulation crosswalk and other useful reference information.Lunch breaks, Noon - 1:00 p.m.

This 30-hour training provides workers who have increased levels of safety responsibility a greater depth of awareness and training so they can be successful in their roles in general industry, which means any industry that is not agriculture, construction or maritime. You will receive an “OSHA 30” card to prove your knowledge and success to employers. This training provides not only an overview of the hazards a worker may encounter on a job site, but what the employer’s responsibility is in hazard identification, avoidance and control. There is additional training on risk recognition, abatement, and guidance for management of workplace hazards. Workers' rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint are also covered. The class includes hands-on activities, demonstrations and “safety jeopardy”. You will receive a Federal OSHA/Oregon OSHA regulation crosswalk, a supervisor’s safety primer, and other useful reference information

Cynthia Holm

Cynthia Holm, the safety ladyKnow by her friends and colleagues as “The Safety Lady”, Cynthia Holm brings to RCC over 30 years of safety experience; a unique training style; and a passion for safety, quality, and compliance that make her courses memorable and fun.  Her experience ranges from aircraft maintenance to manufacturing, childcare to healthcare.  She is an Occupational Safety and Health Administration Authorized trainer for general industry and a credentialed technical education instructor with a specialization in Energy, Environment & Resource Management and Hazardous Materials Occupations. 

Cynthia currently works as the Providence Medford Medical Center Safety Manager and owns her own business, EHS Maven.  Her education includes an MA in Vocational Education, a BS of Industrial Technology and an AS of Aircraft Systems.  Her work in safety began while serving in the Unites States Air Force (USAF) and only because she told her Sargent, “she couldn’t type”!  To learn more about that story and other safety/life changing tips, enroll in one of her upcoming courses.
